Many older people live alone and often isolation can be a real problem - especially for those who live on a low income. For people who have not had a holiday for many years and have no possibility of arranging or paying for one the benefits of a NBFA holiday are invaluable.

NBFA provides free holidays for older people who are living on a low income. We hope that an NBFA holiday is the chance to enjoy a change of scene and to make new friends with people from the same area.

Each holiday is to a UK seaside resort and includes coach travel, half board accommodation in a hotel, entertainment and some excursions. Holidays take place in the late autumn and the early spring.

NBFA provides six nights accommodation in a quality hotel. Holiday-makers will stay in twin-bedded rooms, with en-suite facilities with either a bath or shower and WC. Rooms are comfortable, with tea making facilities, central heating and colour TV. There is a wide choice of menu at breakfast and for the evening meal.

NBFA will organise coach travel from a local pick up point to the holiday resort.

NBFA offers a range of excursions which will take place by coach. We try to cater both for people who want to be active and for those who want to spend their time more quietly. Although there are a range of excursions, holidaymakers are free to spend their time as they wish.

To qualify for a free break away with NBFA you need to be:

  • Over 60 years old
  • Living on a low income
  • Not have had a holiday for at least three years
  • Able to get on and off a coach, manage steps and look after yourself

Every year NBFA selects the areas that receive an offer of a free holiday.

People can either be referred by a professional care worker, can refer themselves or be part of a group that applies to go together. NBFA tries to inform older people by contacting local groups and advertising locally. You can also contact us to find out when we will be selecting from your area and ask to be put on a waiting list. We will not send out an application form unless your area is selected to go on holiday in the near future.
